Guiding Light Mentoring Meets Families’ Financial Needs

Funded by Greater Cincinnati Foundation & United Way of Greater Cincinnati's COVID-19 Regional Response Fund.

Guiding Light Mentoring serves children and youth ages 8 to 18 in Greater Cincinnati by providing their families with positive role models through one-on-one community-based mentorship, tutoring and leadership programs and youth summits.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the families in their programs have encountered additional economic challenges. Thanks to the generous support of our community, the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund activated by Greater Cincinnati Foundation and United Way of Greater Cincinnati, Guiding Light Mentoring was able to help five families meet those immediate needs.

For a mother of three on disability with a special-needs daughter, that meant being able to make utilities and car payments and buy food for her family. For another family, a water bill payment. For a laid-off father, the money enabled him to pay bills and feed his family. Families also received help with rent and mortgage payments.

“As a grassroots mentoring organization serving underserved youth, we are grateful for the generous support,” said Latisha Owens, Guiding Light Mentoring Founder & President.
